Why dataX
If you have product content, you need dataX. Read on to understand what dataX can do and how it will help you get the best out of your data.
dataX uses a combination of AI and human expertise to enrich, validate, maintain and grow your product content. An e-commerce platform with products that have elaborate, accurate, and up to date content means you will have customers who know what they are buying, making them more confident to purchase at your e-store.
The first step is to get data in the format that suppliers and distributors can work with. This is a basic step, but a crucial one, because without this, products can't reach the market. We take in product data from suppliers in their native format, and convert it to the format of any number of distributors. This is done quickly and efficiently, so that you can speed product to market.
Once the product data has been transformed into formats that marketplaces understand, you can explore other ways of getting the best out of your data.
For example, good product classification. Well-classified products have a greater chance of coming up in searches and therefore being purchased. But what's even better is product data that has been enriched. By enrichment we mean going beyond mere titles and descriptions (although those are important!). We also validate your existing data for accuracy and completeness. Further, we help you stay on top of any changes/updates to your catalog. Our powerful, full-fledged content governance platform lets you view and edit your taxonomy, maintain multiple versions, work with different hierarchies, and update your PIM seamlessly, with no extra effort even as you scale your catalog exponentially.
We invite you to explore ways in which you can use dataX to meet your business targets.
Content Transformation
Why do you need it?
Whether you are a distributor or a supplier, if your data is not in a market-ready format, your products can't be sold. Keying in data in proprietary formats is so resource intensive and time consuming that products take weeks to get onboarded. Due to this resource crunch, suppliers end up filling the templates of only the largest channels, leaving out many small retailers and distributors. Even if a syndication service is used, the formats are still rigid, and tend to accommodate just the bare minimum attributes, resulting in loss of valuable enrichment.
What can dataX do?
dataX can take in supplier data in their native format (or data model) and instantly transform it to any distributor's format. Our proprietary algorithm uses AI to understand the input and output formats and performs an accurate mapping of column headers and data across the two formats. This process is automated, resulting in speed and efficiency. A supplier can potentially transform product data into thousands of distributor formats using dataX.
How does it help?
Suppliers will benefit from huge savings in time and effort taken to enter data in various proprietary channel formats. Additionally, they can reach thousands more because automation is made to scale. This results in speedy onboarding of products to the marketplace.
Distributors, apart from enjoying similar benefits such as speed to market, can minimize product data enrichment costs and also determine new SKUs and suppliers for onboarding.
dataX essentially removes the bottleneck caused by different data formats between suppliers and distributors, enables greater reach and faster onboarding of product data.
Content Classification
Why do you need it?
Every product needs a home in your system of categories. When you are onboarding new products, or you changed categories and you need to re-sort your products, assigning a path in your taxonomy to each product is a tedious chore. If products are not in their logical place, how will a customer find the product they want?
dataX will assign these paths with lightning speed and complete accuracy. Days of classifying can get comfortably done in ten minutes.
What can dataX do?
Our proprietary algorithm learns your taxonomy (or a standard master taxonomy) and auto-classifies your product data into this taxonomy. Because the algorithm is well-trained, the entire classification is done in a matter of seconds!
You will be able to see the results on the dataX platform. You will see exactly which SKU has been put in which category and with how much confidence. You will be able to accept or review the classification, and download the results. You will also know whether certain products need more data for better classification, and you can have them re-classified. In the event that you flag a product for rework, this information gets fed back into the algorithm and it learns to do better next time!
How does it help?
Imagine if classifying products into your taxonomy takes almost no time at all. What is now possible?
You will be less afraid to change your taxonomy, because you won’t be afraid of creating more work for yourself, re-sorting all of your products.
You may also be more ambitious when it comes to onboarding new products. Instead of onboarding a hundred at a time, you will take on thousands at a time.
Content Enrichment
Why do you need it?
When your products are described in detail, they look so much better on e-commerce sites. Not just that, the more product information customers see, the nicer their shopping experience. They will see informative titles, descriptions, good quality images and videos, detailed product specifications, the latest user guides and warranties – all of which will result in a high degree of customer engagement that will in turn lead to better conversions. Customers will know more fully what they are buying, making them more confident to purchase at your e-store.
Enriched data can also improve the filters available on the left hand navigation pane – this lets the customer zero in on your product with ease.
You need a limitless number of attributes and descriptions for your products. Ideally, you would have information for any question a customer might want to ask about your products.
What can dataX do?
The dataX proprietary algorithm scours through websites and other data sources, uses relevant product identification codes, and essentially gathers all available information about a product. It then applies business rules, uses specified formulas (including search keywords) to generate titles and descriptions that are accurate. That’s the most basic (but very important!) enrichment.
Digital assets include images, product specification sheets, warranties, and any document that the manufacturer may have put out with the product. Our algorithm can procure latest documents, check thousands of images for duplicates and retain only the best and most relevant ones. We do this accurately, consistently, and miss nothing that can add value to your product’s listing. Imagine doing this manually!
How does it help?
Consider this product listing on an e-commerce site:
Now, compare it with a similar listing, except the product here has enriched data.
At which store are you more likely to buy?
Content Validation
Why do you need it?
Good question. Once your data is enriched, didn’t we say you were all set? Absolutely – for a while. Over time, data gets old. Perhaps the manufacturer’s specification sheet has changed. Perhaps they have updated images. Or perhaps your own catalog has changed and you’ve edited your taxonomy to reflect that. Periodic validation of product data including attributes is a good way of keeping the content up to date.
What can dataX do?
We ensure that your product data is up to date and complete. We first check the existing data and if anything is found to be in need of enrichment, our algorithm will get to work.
Post processing, you will be able to evaluate our suggestion and make the call on whether to accept it or not. From our experience, our algorithm is highly accurate in its suggestions, and our clients are happy with the results. However, in the rare event that you may not want to accept a suggestion, this information is fed back into the algorithm so that it learns and performs better every time you use it!
How does it help?
Whether your product has just been added to your taxonomy, or whether it’s an old reliable, sitting in your system for years, we make sure you always have current information about it. This results in informative listings on your e-commerce site, giving your customers up to date product details, the best images available and the latest warranties and specifications sheet. Always.
Content Governance
Why do you need it?
Customers are going to come to your site looking for a product or category of products, and expect to easily find what they have in mind. Considering the various ways in which products are effectively categorized, and having a scalable and adaptable way of managing those categories will have a direct impact on the customer experience on your site.
Since products change with the market, your categories will need to change too.
Without dataX, changing the system of categories can be tedious and time consuming. Also changes to your categories will mean many of your products will need to be resorted into those categories. This can be a mountain of work when you have a large catalog of products.
Possibly, you’d want an e-store that identifies the customer as preferring one system of categories over another, and your site could actually have multiple taxonomies, so that customers have a customized view of your catalog.
What you need is a tool that gives you complete control of your taxonomy - from viewing attribute relationships to managing multiple taxonomies and hierarchies. You need an easy-to-navigate interface that saves you the effort of having to work with spreadsheets. You need automated checks in place to ensure that all taxonomy edits are within business rules. You need a robust user management system that lets you collaborate with your team to work on the taxonomy together.
What can dataX do?
dataX gives you a powerful tool that lets you manage everything related to your taxonomy. These include:
- View taxonomy and attribute relationships.
- Edit category properties and attribute properties.
- Create new categories.
- Define attribute sequences and filtering attributes.
- Edit category relationships to update new class paths – this includes moving a node along with its children to another parent, connecting a node, disconnecting a node from the tree, and splitting a node.
- Manage multiple versions of a taxonomy.
- Manage multiple hierarchies within a single version.
- Use the draft-review-approve cycle to have full control over taxonomy edits.
- Publish the taxonomy and export a copy.
To enable a hassle-free experience with viewing, managing, editing and publishing your taxonomy, dataX provides these features:
- Conflict Management - Block edit requests conflicting with other requests.
- Impact Analysis - Get a count of SKUs impacted by the edit request.
- Upload Codesets - Define valid values for attributes and appropriate units of measure.
- View Delta - Show changes between versions (currently in progress).
How does it help?
Consider this fragment of taxonomy dealing with apparel. Say you have Men’s, Women’s and Children’s clothing and have organized them in this fashion:
This is a neat organization. You may want to add a few more categories such as formal shirts, trousers, scarves – depending on your catalog. You may want to create a whole new range of ‘Unisex’ clothing. You may decide to remove the category ‘Children’s Clothing’. Or you may want to split it into ‘Boys’ and ‘Girls’ Clothing.
You will want to do all this with a high degree of control, using a robust draft-review-approve cycle. You will want to freeze the taxonomy until all changes are approved and published. You will want to compare the change request with what exists. You will want to create new attributes and set business rules for what they may contain.
And you will want to do all of this and more with efficiency and accuracy. That’s how dataX helps.
